I've never figured this out by watching the episode Window of Opportunity. When the guy starts the looping by shooting at Sam and Daniel, is Daniel killed by the weapon or not?  It's been quite awhile since I've watched the ep, but I've seen the clip in a few vids and I still can't figure out if Daniel's killed or not.

Any ideas? Does Jack ever say anything that lets us know?

I don't think anything was ever said onscreen that would answer this question.

I remember (vaguely) reading a fanfic that posited Daniel being killed and following Jack and Teal'c through all the loops as a ghost or Ascended being or something. It was probably a J/D fic, since that's the majority of what I've read.

Oh, and it was only Daniel that was shot at, IIRC. The others were off at a short distance. Sam is the one who runs to check on him when they spot him, though.

I remember that fic, it's one of sideburns's. But I thought the exact same thing, the instance was so vague that it allowed for it to be written as Daniel dying.

What we do know from the scene is that the object in question was never disputed by Malachai that it was a weapon/gun. It was an energy weapon of some sort and can either have stunned or killed Daniel.

It also makes me question-if Malachai's home planet was advanced enough to send out archaeologists to other planets and study ancient technology and have energy weapons and cooler electronic pictures than we do, why did the SGC never try to ally themselves with them?

It's ambiguous enough that you can go either way, I think. There's no confirmation.

I would personally suggest that he was unconscious rather than dead because of the way his hand slowly drifts down after Malakai dumps him. If he'd been dead, I would have expected his hand to flop down unceremoniously.

I have always assumed that this exchange between Daniel and Malakai, when SG-1 returns for the third and final time, indicates that Daniel has indeed returned from the dead thanks to the time loop:

DANIEL : MALAKI, the device doesn’t work.

MALAKI looks up suddenly.

DANIEL (cont’d) : It never did.

MALAKI : It never did? You’re living proof.

btw, I have seen Malakai spelled as I have spelled it [Malakai] more commonly than as the transcript has put it [Malaki], so that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
