Clone!Jack, Priors

1. Clone!Jack from "Fragile Balance" (7.3): what name would he use? I'm assuming he wouldn't keep the exact same name, but would he change his first name only, his last name only, or both?

2. If Jack weren't a soldier, what else might he do? I'm trying to gauge from his interests what other career he might have sought. (For reference, see question one.)

3. The Priors: would they be long-lived? As in, a much longer life than normal humans? Why or why not?

1. I have seen several fanon names developed for him -- back to Jonathan, or John, some combination of initials, JD. I've seen his last name changed to Neal or something that was created as his mother's maiden name.

2. One famous AU had him going into computer software. Another one I read when I first got into fandom had him becoming an aeronautics engineer and starting his own company. Yet another one had him eventually joining the Stargate program in his own right.

3. There's no canon on this to my knowledge. I think you could say anything you wanted; the Ori could manipulate them any way they wanted, I'm guessing. Would they prefer that they live long or short lives?

Seconding "Jonathan" or "Jon"; it's pervasive in fic and fandom seems to have accepted it.

The bottom line is: there's no canon at all on any of these things, so do whatever seems best to you...

1. Jon seems to be the fanon name for him, so much so that a few people think it's canon. :) I have a whole series of clone!Jack stories in which he's going by his real name of Jack (I chose the mother's maiden name route for his new last name), and one person told me that I was wrong, his name is Jon and what in the world was I thinking? lol

I think he would keep his first name. I can't figure out why he wouldn't, because after all, it is his name. There are a million Jacks out there in the world, no one would be able to pinpoint one Jack out of all the others, so what's the point?

2. In my series, he started his Air Force career from scratch. He enrolled in the Air Force Academy and dealt with all the resentment that comes from being a seasoned Colonel who has to take all kinds of crap from upper classmen, then deal with more resentment when he starts up at the SGC, and my favorite parts is when he clashes with General O'Neill. Hee! Writing those debates and rereading them are the best part of the whole series!! :)

Anyway, besides the Air Force, I also think he would be a great police officer or fire fighter. I think he would go for anything that involves a certain amount of danger. Adventurous types of activity is just what he seems to be attracted to judging by all the times he volunteered to go on the most dangerous missions (going to Socar's Hell, and blowing up the Gate on the planet with the black hole, for instance). He just seems to like that kind of life. Adrenalin junkie, you know?

But yeah. Anything that involves a little more spice of life.

1. i'd think he'd go by john, with the same last name.

2. i thought he might be an airline pilot. or a hockey player.

3. i think they'd be long-lived. there probably weren't too many people they elevated to that level, so they wanted to keep them around for awhile.
